The project ORIENTATION: Assessing Intercultural Skills in Adult Education was developed during the period 2004-2006 by a partnership under the Socrates Programme - Grundtvig 1 (Transnational Cooperations).

The project was based on the idea that in adult education the notions linked to "intercultural", "multicultural" or "cultural diversity" are generally formed by the personal experiences of the adult educators, by their regional cultural settings, by the national and local policies, and by a range of other factors. According to the contexts, these notions differ largely throughout Europe. The international team of the "ORIENTATION' project therefore accepted the challenge to develop a high quality training course which would integrate the different notions and experiences of participants from all parts of Europe, and their different practices in adult education. The course was developed in all aspects ad hoc: the theoretical and the organizational one (development of original training materials and activities, promotion and logistics).

Part of the project were the three pilot courses organized in Poland and in Lesvos (April 2006), which were organized by the partnership. The course was organized in Germany after the end of the project (October 2008), with the contribution of Hellenic Culture Centre's associates. The coordinator of the project was the organization Joint Effort from Germany. The Hellenic Culture Center participated from Greece, as well as other educational organizations from Finland, Poland and the UK.
