The international training course ORIENTATION - Intercultural Skills in Adult Education is offered by the European partnership of educational centres that produced it (European Commission, Socrates-Grundtvig 1, 2004-2006), amongst which is the Hellenic Culture Centre.
In adult education, our every day notions linked to "intercultural", "multicultural" or "cultural diversity" are generally formed by our personal experiences, by our regional cultural settings, by the sector in adult education we are working in, by our national and local policies, and by a range of other factors. Some of us have studied the subject more closely, others are less concerned. According to our contexts, our notions differ largely throughout Europe. An international project team therefore accepted the challenge to develop a high quality training course which would integrate the different notions and experiences of participants from all parts of Europe, and their different practices in adult education. A course, which would provide a deepened understanding of cultural diversity in Europe, and develop the competences to work in it effectively as adult educator - meaning: to actually apply an intercultural approach to their work.
So far the course has been organized, with the contribution of Hellenic Culture Centre's associates, in Lesvos Island, Greece, in Poland and in Germany. The next meeting of adult educators from all over Europe will be soon announced. Contact the Secretariat for information on Individual Grands for Adult Educators!
